Every May, the Department of Linguistics holds a graduation reception and recognition ceremony. It’s a chance for us to congratulate and honor our graduates, and meet their friends and family.

Specific information about each year’s reception will be sent to graduating seniors by email, and posted on this web site, by mid-April.

The weather does not look good for Commencement this year! This may affect the main Commencement ceremony in Kenan Stadium. So here’s what will happen with the Linguistics reception and recognition ceremony:

  1. If the main Commencement ceremony is *delayed*, the LING reception will be delayed also. We won’t start our event until people have had a chance to arrive from Kenan Stadium. So please enjoy the main ceremony and come join us afterward. For anyone who isn’t planning to go to the main ceremony, you can check the live streaming video to find out when it’s over: [https://commencement.unc.edu/livestream/].
  2. If the main Commencement ceremony is *shortened* or *cancelled*, the LING reception will still go on! But we need time to get everything set up and ready for you and your guests. So the earliest we will begin serving refreshments — even if the main ceremony is over in record time — is *11:15*.
